Building Specific Galleries - No Bone Zone

  • This exhibit is themed around Invertebrates - animals that have no back bone.
  • There are 50,000 known vertebrate species (human, canine, elephant).
  • There are 1,450,000 known invertebrate species.
  • Some invertebrates have hard shells, some don’t.
  • S.C.U.M. tank” stands for S.ea Stars – C.rabs – U.rchins – M.ollusks.
  • The touch pool species are from the northwest Pacific coast of the United States.
  • The Terrific Pacific tank species are from Indo-Pacific waters.
  • Common species found in the touch tank include:

    • Decorator crab
    • Fish-eating anemone

    • California sea cucumber
    • Red sea urchin
