Building Specific Galleries - Explore A Shore

Explore A Shore opened to the public in March 2004 as an aquatic discovery zone designed primarily for children ages 3 to 13. The components offer children a variety of fun adventures as they climb on aquatic animal models, splash in water jet sprays, and watch live animal programs while socializing with family and friends.

The overwhelming success of Explore A Shore has brought many new faces to the Aquarium—and many new ideas. The Aquarium has listened to its visitors and is now adding components to a side area of the current space. The improvements include lush landscaping in the western plaza, a bird aviary, a sandbox with lattice roof, additional seating and shade, and a cabana-style changing area with lockers. All of this is on target for opening in June.

The Caribbean themed family friendly outdoor exhibit makes the perfect stop during an Aquarium visit.

Explore A Shore is a 2.2 acre aquatic discovery zone for kids. Kids can climb on aquatic animal models, climb aboard a two story pirate ship, slide down a 4-foot waterslide, play in water jet sprays and watch live shows while socializing with family and friends. There are a variety of interactive areas with water elements to create an aquatic discovery zone for children.

Explore A Shore Components;

Join the crew aboard the two story, 24-foot Pirate Ship and fire water cannons at your friends below. Climb across the cargo net to the ship's main deck and look through the telescope for a manatee, dolphin, shark and a shipwreck. Take the helm and follow the map to the buried treasure.

Climb up the 10-foot eel reef rock structure. Discover coral caves while playing on ladders, cargo nets and slide through tunnels while misters spray around a giant eel’s head.

Crawl through an eight foot by four foot wave in the Surf’s Up Wave Tunnel. Slide down the 4-foot waterslide or ride the dolphin or surfboard. Kids can play in water jet sprays to cool off in the hot Florida sun.

Count the teeth in the alligator’s mouth at Shipwreck Shore for toddlers. Sit in a six foot sea horse daddy’s lap and walk on the moray balance beam. Shipwreck Shore gives toddlers a place to climb on animal figures and pirate ship replica.
