Building Specific Galleries - Dragons Down Under

  • Seahorses are a hot commodity! In one year, over 100,000 seahorses were taken from Florida waters and sold overseas for traditional Chinese medicines and the pet trade.

  • Seahorses depend on healthy sea grasses, mangroves and reefs.
  • Rare sea dragons, such as the weedy and leafy sea dragon live off the coast southern Australia, where cool kelp forests and colorful sponge gardens grow on rocky underwater cliffs.
  • Common species include:
    • Dwarf seahorse
    • Leafy sea dragon
    • Pacific trumpetfish
    • Alligator pipefish
    • Red flame pipefish
    • Weedy sea dragon
